The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation will host a safety presentation February 15 entitled "Safety Culture Awareness."
The program will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CRI, an off-campus facility located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.
A $20 fee will be charged to cover the price of materials and lunch. Advance registration is encouraged in order to guarantee lunch and materials by calling the CRI at 218-755-4900; toll free, 1-888-738-3224.
Presenting will be several human resources/safety team members from TEAM Industries, representing a variety of its locations. The presenters are Pete Keller, Audubon and Detroit Lakes, and Nichole Nater, Park Rapids and Baxter. Carri Pickett and Julie Olson from the TEAM corporate office in Bagley will also attend and participate in the question and answer segment of the program.
Safety cultures are among the most difficult safety initiatives to achieve, noted Nater. While compliance is necessary, a safety culture is also comprised of employee buy-in and empowerment, which typically results in improved compliance and a decrease in injury occurrences and severity.
The session will include a brief presentation; focusing on TEAM's initiatives in this regard, followed by an open forum on achieving a safety culture.
The session is designed to be of value to anyone seeking to improve safety initiatives.
The session is part of a monthly series sponsored by the CRI and the Northern Minnesota Safety Council and designed for those professionals who are responsible for the safety of their organizations. Offered the third Wednesday of each month, they feature experts from around the state discussing a variety of topics related to safety.
Groups on the Bemidji Area Safety Council helping organize the monthly safety presentations include Bi-County CAP, Beltrami County, North Central Door Company, North Country Health Services, Potlatch, Search Resources and Tri-Valley.
The CRI is an off-campus facility operated by Bemidji State University designed to increase collaboration between the University, business and industry and other sectors of the region. The CRI was formed to focus efforts on training, education and entrepreneurial needs of Northwestern Minnesota and beyond.
