Let’s face it-safety can be boring.  Learning improves when the training is presented in interesting and innovative ways. The Do's and DO Not's of training will be reviewed, along with some ideas to try with your next training.“ROI  for Safety Training”Return on Investment is a frequently used term for analyzing the cost effectiveness of programs in business environments. Safety professionals must be able to effectively communicate the benefits of programs from all aspects. Bob Sarna, MNOSHA Northern Area Supervisor“Frequently Cited Safety Hazards”This presentation will discuss MNOSHA rules an standards most frequently cited during inspections in 2006. By viewing actual hazard photos taken during the inspection process, we will seek to understand why they are so dangerous to those exposed to them, why they are cited, and why they need to be abated.

Gary Anderson, MNOSHA Principal Safety Investigator“Lock out-Tag out” This session will review the types of citations MN OSHA has been issuing for the lock out-tag out standard. Will include a review of  the major sections of the standard and possible abatement procedures. In addition, actual examples of serious injuries and fatalities that have occurred due to non-compliance will be reviewed.

Tyrone Taylor, MNOSHA Construction Supervisor & Doug Swenson, Operations Manager, Philippi Equipment Company“Crane Updates”The MN state legislature passed a statute that will require the certification of some crane operators on construction work sites. This will go into effect on July 1, 2007. This session will define which operators need certification in reference to the size and type of crane they are operating. It will discuss why some crane operators may be exempt from this statute, depending on the type and location where they perform. Lastly, we will discuss operator training requirements.

Indicators MNOSHA compliance looks for when assessing an employer’s AWAIR program.The employee right to know act ; exempt information, training requirements, how to properly label hazardous material, information required in the written right to know program.

Phil Jacobs, President, Jacobs Consulting Ltd. “Emergency Preparedness; from ‘’A’ to disaster”Preparing for emergencies covers the whole alphabet, but once a disaster strikes there is no time left for planning. This session will touch on a few important emergency preparedness topics including: The National Incident Command System, working with volunteers, and preparing your home and family for emergencies. Resources for learning more about these topics will be provided.
