A new three-day course in project management will be offered March 7, 14 and 21 by the Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation.
The highly interactive course will provide instruction in the management tools necessary to ensure successful project implementation and will cover topics including project selection, life cycle, scope planning, work breakdown structures, estimating costs, execution and control, and risk management.
All sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held at the CRI, located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.
Registration forms are available at www.cri-bsu.org/regforms.htm or by calling the CRI at 755-4900 or 1-888-738-3224. The registration fee for the three-day course is $425 and includes lunch and all materials. A discount will be offered to companies sending four or more people to the course. Early registration is encouraged, and the deadline for registration is February 27.
Students will work in teams and are encouraged to use existing projects instead of instructor provided case studies. "This three day course will focus on the development of a project plan using processes sanctioned by the Project Management Institute. Since the culmination of the class will be a draft project plan, students are encouraged to bring existing or planned projects from their workplace to class."
Teaching the course will be Michael Wellcome Associate Director, Center for Research and Innovation. In addition to project management his experience includes systems design, electronic commerce and organizational development. He is the project officer for the Northern Tier High Technology Corridor project and has over 10 years experience in designing, managing, and implementing projects.
The Center for Research and Innovation is an off-campus facility operated by Bemidji State University designed to increase collaboration between the University, business and industry and other sectors of the region.
