A natural resources presentation entitled “Minnesota’s Endangered Species Act and List” is scheduled for 3 p.m. April 16 at the Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation, an off-campus facility operated by BSU and located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.
The presentation is open to the public and free of charge.

Presenting will be Richard Baker, acting supervisor, Natural Heritage and Nongame Research Division of Ecological Services, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, St. Paul.

Minnesota’s Endangered Species Law affects a wide variety of natural resources and land use activities throughout the state. Baker will review the components and implications of this law and discuss current plans to revise the state’s list of endangered, threatened and special concern species.

He will provide those attending with copies of the law, associated rules, current list and proposed changes to the list.

The presentation is designed to be of interest to both resource managers and the general public.
For the past 20 years, Baker has been research coordinator with the DNR’s Nongame Wildlife Program and staff zoologist with the DNR’s Natural Heritage Program, both within the Division of ecological Services. He holds a master’s degree from Cornell University.

The talk is part of an on-going series of monthly presentations from the Bemidji Area Natural Resources Continuing Education Consortium. Groups helping organize the natural resources consortium include the BSU Center for Environmental, Earth and Space Studies; the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources; Norbord Minnesota; the Chippewa National Forest; Beltrami County; Ainsworth; and the Red Lake Reservation.

The CRI was developed by BSU to serve as a conduit between the University, business, industry, non-profits and the general public.
