Jeanne Edevold Larson Takes on a New Role
The Center for Research and Innovation bids a fond farewell to Jeanne Edevold Larson as she takes on the role of executive director of the Mississippi Headwaters Area Dental Health Center. Jeanne worked at the Center for Research and Innovation as an industrial training coordinator for several years, but served a much larger role. Her many talents will be missed by the CRI and we wish her the best in her new pursuits.

“So You Want to Start Your Own Business?”
This three hour presentation covers the basic steps to starting a business in the State of Minnesota and focuses on feasibility, business plan basics, basic legal requirements, and understanding the financial aspects of financing a business. Each participant will utilize the newest version-Office 2007 on an individual desktop computer in a state of the art computer lab. Participants with previous versions of Office 95-2005 or another software program will also improve business efficiency by taking these workshops. “Building America’s Longest Hiking Trail in Minnesota”
Presenting will be Matthew Davis, regional trail coordinator for Minnesota and North Dakota, North Country Trail Association. His presentation will introduce the North Country National Scenic Trail, explain how the North Country Trail is developed, and focus on the role of volunteers. It will also focus on the ongoing development of the trail in the immediate area, in Becker, Clearwater and Hubbard Counties. Several management issues will be discussed, including impacts to the trail from timber harvesting, securing landowner permission for a single-use trail and the trail’s relationship with motorized recreation. Copies of the official National Park Service brochure map, NCTA brochures and NCTA membership materials and magazines will be available.This session will be held at the CRI on Monday, May 19 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. More information and the full schedule is online.
“Developing and Maintaining a Safety Culture”
Presenting will be Donald Hejna, environmental health and safety manager, Wood Products, Potlatch Forest Products Corporation. Hejna will explain how a safety culture can be established by workers and leaders with a common goal. Perceived expectations, personal involvement and activities influence how people address working safely. The presentation will include many examples and real life experiences of ways to develop both a safe work place and personal values of working safely. Quickbooks for CPA’s
The Center for Research and Innovation Custom College has partnered with the Minnesota CPA Association to offer Quickbooks training specifically for CPA’s who use or assist clients who use Quickbooks software. Topics covered include general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting and business analysis applications. Discuss internal controls, what to watch out for, how to maximize the capabilities of QuickBooks, when it is time for your clients to move to another system, and how to extract the information you need for other applications such as tax software, work paper tools, Microsoft Office products and more. This class will be held at Northwest Technical College on June 19. More information is online.
