How Effective is Your Safety and Health Program?
Join Dave Ferkul, from the MN Department of Labor and Industry Workforce Safety Consultation on April 21 from 11:30am-1pm.  Mr. Ferkul will provide an overview of elements necessary to have a comprehensive safety program at your place of business.  He will also discuss how to use Form 33 as an assessment tool to determine the effectiveness of your safety and health program.   The cost of $30 covers all program materials and lunch for the participants.  Advance registration is necessary.  Contact the CRI for more information or to register:  cri@bemidjistate.edu, 218 755 4900.

QuickBooks Class Offered
Small business owners often use QuickBooks to track their financials but don’t know how to get the full benefit of the program. This class will help them spend less time on bookwork and more time on growing the business. The CRI will offer a two-day QuickBooks software course to improve business efficiency and effectiveness on April 13 and 20. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both dates and cost $240 for 12 hours of training. The cost covers all materials and the licensing fee to participate in the lab with hands-on training. Class size is limited to 10 and pre-registration is required through the CRI. The trainer will be Michelle Landsverk who is a QuickBooks Certified Pro-Advisor. Training is open to anyone, but will be particularly beneficial for small business owners and managers interested in better using the software to improve efficiency.

Learn More About the Forest Inventory Analysis
The Bemidji Area Natural Resources Continuing Education Consortium presents Dave Heinzen, Supervisor Resources Assessment Office, MN DNR Forestry Division.  Mr. Heinzen will present Monday, April 19 at
3pm.  There is no charge to attend the presentation held at the Center for Research and Innovation.  Click here to learn about other upcoming presentations.

Academy of Lifelong Learning Continues Spring Series
The Academy of Lifelong Learning, a learning in retirement network, continues the spring series throughout the month of April. Presentations will continue weekly with different speakers and topics. All presentations begin Tuesdays at 10am at the CRI located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue N. The educational seminars are free and open to the public. Students Team up with the SBDC

Candice Bacchus, Agnes Cheung and Nahoko Kanaya of Professor Doug Leif's Applied Software Development class have been working this semester to create Excel-based business planning templates for the Small Business Development Center.  Their first business template is for a regional restaurant and will be premiering on the Northern Tier on April 15th.  Additional cash flows in development include a convenience store and a resort.  Check it out at www.ntht.org.

Learn how to do Business with the State of Minnesota
Join Paul Stembler, Assistant Director, Materials Management Division, MN Department of Administration to get an overview about contracting with the State. Learn the State's expectations of contractors by attending this workshop on April 16, 9am-12pm at the CRI. Stembler will also speak about cooperative purchasing ventures within MN units of government from 1-3pm on April 16. Learn how this program is structured and how to become a member. Are You Ready to Start Your Own Business?
Entrepreneur 101:  An Introduction to Business Ownership, explores the basic steps to starting a business in the state of Minnesota and connections to resources to start the planning process.  This 2-hour course covers business plan basics and personal decision making (credit, lifestyle, aptitude, etc.)  Registration fee is $20.  Join us on April 6 or May 4.  Both sessions are scheduled from 2-4pm at the Center for Research and Innovation.

The class is co-sponsored by The People Connection, NW Regional Small Business Development Center and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.

 May 18th - Baudette City Hall - Individual Counseling and Training sessions 2:00 - 6:00
