The latest version of award-winning QuickBooks financial management software gives you fast and easy tools to help you manage your business more effectively. QuickBooks Pro 2007 is much more efficient than spreadsheets, word-processing, or paper ledgers.  You'll spend less time on bookkeeping activities and have more time to make effective management decisions.  This hands-on class will be taught by Gary Sorenson, CPA and Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College faculty member.  Learners will use laptops with Quickbooks Pro 2007 to learn how to quickly and easily manage financial tasks within their business.  Learners with previous versions of Quickbooks software will also improve business efficiency by taking this class.  This event is co-sponsored with the NW Minnesota Small Business Development Center. The class will be held June 7 and June 12 from 9am to 4pm at the Center for Research and Innovation.  Registration form is online. REGISTER TODAY!

“Identity Theft: The Crime of the Century”
This presentation will educate participants about the history of identity theft, how it works and its threat to society. Information will also be presented outlining recent federal laws that impose civil and criminal liability for identity theft onto businesses and organizations.  The information, while targeted for business and organizational leaders, will also be of interest to the general public, since anyone can become a target of identity theft. Those attending this Regional Employer Support Network (RESN) presentation will receive a folder of materials that can be used to help educate others in their organizations regarding associated risks and regulations. This presentation will be held Thursday, June 7 from 9am – 12pm at the Center for Research and Innovation.  Full RESN schedule and more information are online.

“An Introduction to Earthworm Identification – Yes You can Do It!”
A natural resources presentation on identification of earthworms is scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, June 18 at the Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College Center for Research and Innovation Custom College. Please note the time change from the regular presentation time.  Cindy Hale, an instructor of environmental education and ecology courses at the University of Minnesota Duluth and founder of the Great Lakes Worm Watch Program, will be presenting.  Participants will learn the basic features used in identifying different earthworm species and be introduced to a new identification resource book, “Earthworms of the Great Lakes,” written by Hale. Hale holds a Ph.D. in forest ecology and science education from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in environmental sciences from UMD. As founder of the Great Lakes Worm Watch, she trains and collaborates with citizen scientists throughout the Great Lakes basin to monitor the spread and ecological impacts of exotic earthworms. More information and the full schedule of Natural Resources Consortium events are available online.
