Forest Certification Workshop:  Applications and Implications in Northern Minnesota
This full-day event will feature a variety of speakers and break-out sessions to discuss issues relating to forest certification.  The event will be held December 5 at the Northern Inn Conference Center in Bemidji.  To learn more about the speakers and presentations, check out the event brochure and registration form online.

Attention Employers – Reduce Your Legal Liability
Denise M. Dross, president of Minneapolis-based Human Resource Guidance, will instruct participants in how to minimize their organization’s liability and exposure to employment lawsuits. Her objectives include helping employers understand basic employment laws and regulations, identifying “red flag” situations needing correction and learning ways of improving existing human resources practices.  Anyone involved in hiring, managing staff or supervising human resources will benefit from the information presented.  Register TODAY The fee for attending this session is $30.  More information and registration forms are available online.  This session will be held Thursday, December 7 from 9-11am at the CRI.

Diverse Forests & Forest Industry for Economic Security
Presenting will be Jeff Edmonds, region staff forester with the Department of Natural Resources Regional Forestry Office, Bemidji.   “Timber harvest is the primary tool for forest management, therefore, the forest products industry needs to fit the diversity found in the forest,” said Edmonds. Materials presented will be of interest to and suitable for land managers, forest industry managers, loggers and the general public.  This session will be held on Monday, December 18 from 3-4pm at the CRI.  The full schedule is available online.

Professional Development Opportunities for the New Year
Fundamentals of Project Management
If you are a project manager, including grant managers, the hands on exercises will provide your project team with the tangible outcomes required to develop a comprehensive project plan.  Topics include project selection, life cycle, scope planning, estimating costs, execution and control, and risk management.  This 3-day interactive course begins January 16, 2007.  Course fee is $425, including lunch and all materials, with a discount offered to any company sending 4 or more people to this course. Online Certificate in Human Resources Management
The Center for Research and Innovation will offer their on-line professional development non-credit certificate in Human Resources Management beginning January 22. The 12-week course is designed for professionals who are new to the human resources field or human resources assistants and staff who provide technical or administrative support. The interactive design of the program will help participants build a network of resources and people that will last long after the course is completed. Real Estate Pre-licensure Courses
To become a licensed real estate person in Minnesota, you must complete 90 hours of pre-licensure training – Real Estate I, II and III. You must also successfully pass the Real Estate Licensure exam.  The 90 hours of classroom training will be offered via Interactive Television on Bemidji State University campus beginning January 23Frequently asked questions, full schedule and registration forms are online.

Write a Winning Grant Series Scheduled
This 3-course series is ideal for people in nonprofits, government entities or schools who want to learn the basics of writing successful grant proposals.  Starting January 30, 2007!  Click here for course and registration information.

Insurance Pre-licensure Courses
To become a licensed insurance agent – the State of Minnesota requires you to successfully complete a 30-hour basic insurance course, plus a 15-hour life/health insurance course and/or a 15-hour property/casualty insurance course, and pass a qualifying exam. These courses meet this requirement.  Classes will be delivered via Interactive Television on the Bemidji State University campus beginning March 13.  The complete course schedule and registration forms are online.

Computer Forensics Training
The Center for Research and Innovation has partnered with Dr. Kari Wood, BSU Associate Professor of Business Administration and Certified Computer Examiner to offer a new non-credit course to learn more about computer forensics.  Topics may include procedures of discovering and preserving evidence, types of computer and Internet crimes, and methods of searching and retrieving evidence using software tools.  This program is in early development stages and is expected to be offered Summer 2007.  If you are interested in learning more, contact the CRI.  We will send information about the class as it becomes available.
