Regional Employer Support Network
Presenting will be Jennifer Drotts, human resources manager, Bigfork Valley Hospital in Big Fork, and LeeAnn Shogren, human resources coordinator, Pinnacle Publishing, Bemidji.  They will each be presenting the forms and processes used by their respective companies in disciplining and terminating employees. Handouts of the materials will be provided to participants, and a group discussion will follow their presentations. “So You Want to Start Your Own Business?”
A three hour presentation will cover the basic steps to starting a business in the State of Minnesota and will focus on feasibility, business plan basics, basic legal requirements, and understanding the financial aspects of financing a business.  Jorge Prince, Director of the Northwest Regional Small Business Development Center will be presenting the class from 6pm-9pm on Tuesday, December 11 at the Center for Research and Innovation, 3801 Bemidji Avenue N, Bemidji.  The fee is $40.00, payable at class, and includes materials.  Call 218-755-4255 to register or e-mail saugustine@bemidjistate.edu

“Grant Writing: What the Heck is That?”
Participants will learn how to prepare an organization for applying for and receiving grants; where to look for funding opportunities; and what to expect from consultants who can help find and secure grants. They will receive copies of reference materials that will assist in identifying funding opportunities.  The session will be most helpful to nonprofit organizations, board members, schools and government entities that are eligible to receive private, state and federal grant funds.  Presenting will be Jeanne Edevold Larson, CRI training coordinator in the area of organizational development.  Attendance is free and open to all who’d like to learn more about the topic. Participants are encouraged to bring along a bag lunch. The session format is a half-hour presentation followed by a question and answer period.The session is scheduled from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12 at CRI.  Bring your lunch. Wolves and Mountain Lions in Minnesota – Facts, Uncertainty and Fiction”
Presenting will be John Erb, a wolf / furbearer biologist with the Department of Natural Resources Forest Wildlife Research Group, Grand Rapids. Erb will present current information about the status, distribution and management of wolves in Minnesota, followed by a review of what natural resource professionals know about mountain lions in Minnesota and surrounding states.  The presentation is designed to be of interest to the general public, landowners, and hunters as well as natural resource professionals. Erb has been employed with the DNR for 10 years, having spent seven of those years in his current position. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wyoming.  The presentation is scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday, December 17. Bloodborne Pathogens

Jeff Wasvick from Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry will present information on bloodborne pathogens on Wednesday, December 19 from 11:30 am to 1:30pm.  Please note the time of the presentation is extended due to the complexity of the topic.  Advance registration is required to guarantee lunch and materials. Write a Winning Grant Series Scheduled
This 3-course series is ideal for people in nonprofits, government entities or schools who want to learn the basics of writing successful grant proposals.  Starting January 29, 2008!  Click here for course information.  Registration form is online.

Project Management Program Offered Online
Learning how to manage projects will provide you with a set of tools that, if used correctly, will
allow you to identify the tasks, assign the resources, and minimize the risk when tackling a new
project.  The online course in “Fundamentals of Project Management” provides a foundation to
the Project Management processes and the management tools necessary to ensure success.
Topics include project selection, life cycle, scope planning, estimating costs, identifying 
specific project tasks (so you don’t forget any!), execution and control, and risk management. 
If you are embarking on a “project”, at work, your business, non-profit, or at home, this class will
give you the tools necessary to ensure success. At the end result of the class each student will
have a completed project management plan that can be implemented.  This class will be
delivered online beginning January 28Registration form is online.

Dreamweaver Basics Begins in February
Learn how to use the tools in Adobe Dreamweaver to create and maintain your website. This class will teach how to use the basic tools available in Adobe Dreamweaver to get your website up and running. Check the January CRI News for more information and registration.

Annual Fundraising Series Begins in March
T
his series of workshops is designed to educate you about having an annual fund raising plan, determining which elements are needed within your non-profit and begin working on your own annual fund raising plan.  This is a hands-on course designed to assist you in having something concrete to begin implementing once you have completed all the sessions.  As an added bonus, you will receive a one-hour one on one session with the trainer following the course.  During this session, your annual fund raising plan will be reviewed and suggestions made for its successful implementation.  All sessions, including the one-on-one review of your organization’s fundraising plan, will be conducted by Deb McGregor-Pfleger.  Watch the CRI News for more information and registration.
