Parade
at CRI honors Jeanne Edevold Larson
Jeanne
Edevold Larson, who worked as a graduate student at CRI, was awarded
the 2003 BSU Graduate Creativity Award for Thesis or Research
Paper entitled “An Action Research and Improvement Plan for Grant
Seeking and Writing Initiatives at Bemidji State University”.
The award is to recognize excellence in scholarship, research,
and creativity at the master’s level as exhibited in a thesis
or research paper. To
celebrate Larson's success and deomonstrate the FISH! Philosophy,
CRI hosted a staff parade. Photos

OSHA
Safety Luncheon Scheduled
A
luncheon seminar on Lockout/Tagout standards for workplace safety
will be offered December 10 by the Bemidji State
University Center for Research and Innovation, Minnesota Department
of Labor and Industry and the NW Regional SBDC. Presenting
will be Bob Durkee, safety consultant with Workplace Safety Consultation
(WSC), which is part of the Minnesota Department of Labor and
Industry. Durkee
has 20 years of experience in safety and health, including positions
as a compliance officer, training officer, discrimination investigator
and resolution coordinator for Minnesota OSHA. He also worked
as a private consultant in northern Minnesota. The seminar will
be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CRI, located at 3801
Bemidji Avenue North. The cost is $30 and includes lunch and materials.

Dr.
Steve Spigarelli Presents Program Peat Research and Development
at Bemidji State University
The Bemidji Area Natural Resources Continuing Education
Consortium presents Dr. Steve Spigarelli, Professor of Environmental
Studies at Bemidji State University.
Dr. Spigarelli will present information about peat research
on Monday, December 8 at 3pm.
There is no charge to attend the presentation held at the
Center for Research and Innovation.

Regional Small Business Development Center
New Counselor Hired
Welcome
to Dale Umlauf! Mr. Umlauf works from a satellite location
at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls
as a Small Business Development Center counselor. He is responsible
for marketing, developing, coordinating, and delivering small
business training to companies in Northwest Minnesota. His role
as the SBDC Counselor includes one-on-one client counseling, and
training to small business owners and entrepreneurs through the
Northwest Regional SBDC satellite office in Thief River Falls.
Expanded
Location Services
The
SBDC announces expanded location services. In partnership with
the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, Native American Business Center,
the Women's Business Center and the Headwaters Regional Development
Commission, the SBDC will be holding routine counseling and training
sessions in Mahnomen, Park Rapids and Bagley. Look for more information

to the Government Course Offered
Learn
what the government buys in the $240 billion marketplace, who
is buying, where they advertise, and how you can become engaged
and registered as a government supplier. Learn
the basic government marketing tips, electronic business techniques,
and how to locate resources.

Congratulations
to New Business Owners
The
Shop in the Pines is nestled in the trees just five miles south
of Bemidji. The owner, Lily Hadrava, retails a variety of crafts
and gift ideas for the Holiday season. She also offers classes
in crafting, stitchery, painting, jewelry and basket making.
The NW Regional Small Business Development Center helped with
her marketing plan and promotional materials.
Cozy
Spray Foam Enterprises is owned and operated by David and Andrea
Holmes of Fosston. They install urethane foam insulation for
a variety of construction designs. They also build dome structures,
which are very energy efficient and cost effective. The NW Regional
Small Business Development Center assisted this company with cash
flow projections, marketing and business planning.
The
Center for Research and Innovation and the
NW Minnesota Small Business Development Center
will be closed
December 25 in celebration of the Christmas holiday.
