Live opera music moves off the stage and into the classroom on Tuesday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
That’s when Dr. Fulton Gallagher will present “Opera-For Real!” at Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation (CRI).

Assisted by two university students, Gallagher, a retired music professor at BSU, will demonstrate traits of Italian and German styles of opera. Italian opera tends to center on everyday situations while German focuses on supernatural events and characters and the pervading theme of the super race.

Live music will help the audience understand the dynamic appeal of live opera without the use of amplification. Gallagher said he hopes to ignite the thrill listeners feel when they hear opera music that is exciting and refreshing.

His talk winds up the spring Tuesday morning lecture series sponsored by the Academy of Lifelong Learning and coordinated by the CRI. The lectures are free and open to the public at 3801 Bemidji Avenue. They are scheduled to begin again in the fall.

ALL offers humanities-based programs that are made possible in part with private donations and BSU support. More information about ALL is available by contacting the Center for Research and Innovation at (218) 755-4900 or by visiting its website, www.cri-bsu.org.
